Your Hair Transplant Journey

Reviewed against our editorial standards and medical review policy. Procedures at Clinic Elia are carried out under physician supervision at Acıbadem. General information, not personal medical advice.

A hair transplant abroad should never feel improvised. This is what happens at every stage of your treatment with Clinic Elia — from the first photo you send us to your twelve-month result — so you know exactly what to expect, who to contact, and what comes next.

Before you bookfrom home

Everything starts with an honest, remote assessment. No deposit, no pressure, no obligation to travel.

Send a few photos

You share clear photos of your hairline, top, crown and donor area on WhatsApp, along with your age, how long you have been losing hair, and any hair-loss medication you take.

A physician reviews them

Your photos and history are reviewed by a physician — not a salesperson. You receive an honest opinion on your hair-loss pattern, your donor supply, a realistic graft range and the technique that suits you.

An honest answer — including “not yet”

If a transplant is not the right step for you, or medical treatment should come first, we tell you. It is better to lose a booking than to waste grafts you cannot spare.

A written plan and price

If you are a good candidate, you receive a clear, written all-inclusive quote setting out exactly what is — and is not — included, with the payment and cancellation terms stated plainly.

Before you travelplanning

Once you decide to go ahead, the practical side is organised for you and confirmed in writing before you leave home.

Dates and flights

You choose your dates and share your flight details. Your coordinator confirms your schedule around them.

Hotel and transfers confirmed

Your accommodation and airport transfers are arranged and confirmed before you travel — not sorted out on arrival.

See your hotel stay and airport & VIP transfers.

Simple pre-op instructions

You receive clear guidance on what to do in the days before surgery — for example around alcohol, blood-thinning medication and smoking — and what to bring with you.

Questions answered

Your English-speaking coordinator is reachable throughout. Anything you are unsure about — the physician, the team, the plan, the travel — is answered before you fly.

Arrival in Istanbulday of arrival

You are met and looked after from the moment you land.

Private airport transfer

A driver meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel. Your coordinator’s contact number is with you the whole time, in case anything about your flight changes.

Hotel check-in and settle in

You check in, rest, and receive any final instructions for the morning — including guidance on food before your procedure.

Not sure where you stand?

Send a few photos of your hairline and crown. A physician reviews them and tells you honestly what is realistic — including when the honest answer is that surgery is not the right step yet.

The day of surgeryone day

A single, unhurried day. The order below is the standard flow of a modern FUE or DHI procedure.

Consultation and hairline design

Before anything is touched, your specialist team examines your scalp, assesses your donor supply and designs your hairline with you — at an age-appropriate height that will still suit you in twenty years. This step matters as much as the surgery itself.

Photos and preparation

Reference photos are taken, the donor area is prepared, and — depending on your technique — your hair may be trimmed. (DHI can often be done without shaving the recipient area.)

Local anaesthetic

The scalp is numbed with local anaesthetic. The procedure itself should not hurt; the only real discomfort is the initial injections.

Extraction, channels and implantation

Follicular units are removed one by one from the donor area, recipient sites are created at the correct angle and direction, and grafts are placed — single-hair units at the hairline for a soft edge, denser units behind for coverage.

Who performs each of these steps is set out on Who does your hair transplant?

Breaks, and home the same day

The day includes rest and meals; a full session typically runs several hours. You return to your hotel the same evening with written aftercare instructions and support for your first night.

The day afterbefore you fly

Your first check and wash happen before you head home.

First check and first wash

Your scalp is reviewed, the first gentle wash is carried out, and you are shown exactly how to wash and care for the area yourself.

Aftercare briefing

Your medications and aftercare routine are explained clearly, and you leave with written instructions and a way to reach the team once you are home.

Flying home

You travel home with simple guidance for the journey.

Back home: months 1–12follow-up

A hair transplant grows in over a year — and you are not left alone for it.

First two weeks

Small crusts form and flake away by around day ten to fourteen. You send photos on the agreed days and your recovery is checked against where it should be.

Weeks 3–8: shedding is normal

The transplanted hairs shed — this “shock loss” is expected, not a setback. The follicle survives beneath the skin and regrows.

Months 3–12: your result grows in

New growth begins around month three to four, thickens by six to nine months, and reaches its final density at twelve to eighteen months. Structured check-ins continue across the year.

Every stage, in writing. Your specific schedule, hotel, transfers and follow-up dates are confirmed in your written plan before you travel — so at no point are you guessing what happens next or who to contact.

Find out what is realistic for you

Send a few photos on WhatsApp. A physician reviews them personally, and you get a straight opinion on your options, how many grafts the area would need, and what the result can and cannot look like. No obligation.
