Dermal fillers restore volume and definition — to the cheeks, lips, jawline, chin or under-eye area — using gels based on hyaluronic acid, a substance the body produces naturally. Used with restraint they look like your own tissue; the wrong approach looks obvious. Assessment matters more than product.
What are dermal fillers?
Fillers are gels, most commonly based on hyaluronic acid, injected to replace lost volume, add subtle definition, or soften certain static lines. Because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the skin, these fillers integrate well when placed correctly, and can often be adjusted or dissolved if needed.
Our approach
The difference between a natural result and an obvious one is judgement and restraint, not the amount of product:
- Assessment before treatment — a qualified practitioner examines your face and discusses what is realistic.
- Restraint over volume — the right filler, in the right plane, in a measured amount.
- Honesty — sometimes the honest advice is that you do not need it, or that a different treatment suits your face.
Where fillers are used — and how long they last
Hyaluronic-acid fillers are matched to the area and the goal. Duration varies with the product, the site and how your body metabolises it — the figures below are typical, not promises.
| Area | Typical use and duration |
|---|---|
| Lips | Subtle shape and hydration; typically several months to around a year. |
| Cheeks / mid-face | Restores lost volume and support; often up to 12–18 months. |
| Jawline & chin | Definition and profile balance; often up to 12–18 months. |
| Nasolabial & marionette lines | Softens folds from the nose and mouth; typically up to a year. |
| Tear trough (under-eye) | A delicate area needing particular caution and the right candidate; assessed carefully. |
Who they may suit
Fillers are considered by adults wanting to restore volume or add subtle definition, after an assessment. Whether they suit you — or whether they suit you at all — is decided in person with a qualified practitioner.
Safety and honest expectations
Used with restraint by a qualified injector, hyaluronic-acid fillers are well-established, and a key advantage is that they can usually be dissolved if needed. The rare but serious risk to understand is vascular occlusion — filler affecting a blood vessel — which is exactly why anatomy, technique and an experienced injector matter, and why we avoid permanent fillers. Overfilling and migration are the common causes of an “obvious” look; restraint prevents them. Minor swelling or bruising is normal and settles.

What to expect
After assessment, treatment is relatively quick, often with little downtime beyond possible minor swelling or bruising. Results are visible soon and are temporary, lasting months depending on the area and product. Your practitioner explains the expected duration and aftercare.

Frequently asked questions
Are fillers permanent?
Most are temporary, lasting months and maintained over time. Hyaluronic-acid fillers can often be adjusted or dissolved if needed.
Will I look “done”?
Not if the plan is right. Our approach favours natural, understated results — the wrong approach, or too much product, is what looks obvious.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes — a face-to-face assessment comes before any treatment, to judge what suits your face.
Is it painful?
Discomfort is usually minor and well managed; some minor swelling or bruising can occur.
Where can fillers be used?
Commonly the cheeks, lips, jawline, chin and under-eye area — assessed individually.
Can they be reversed?
Hyaluronic-acid fillers can often be dissolved if necessary, which is discussed at your assessment.
Who administers them?
A qualified practitioner, after assessing your skin and goals.
Fillers or anti-wrinkle injections?
Fillers add volume; anti-wrinkle injections relax muscles. Different problems, sometimes combined — decided at assessment.
Can fillers be dissolved?
Hyaluronic-acid fillers can usually be dissolved if you are unhappy or if there is a problem — a safety advantage over permanent fillers, which we avoid.
What is the serious risk to know about?
Rarely, filler can affect a blood vessel (vascular occlusion). A qualified injector who knows the anatomy and manages complications is what keeps it safe.
