A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) reshapes and enhances the buttocks using your own fat — removed by liposuction from areas like the waist and abdomen, then transferred to add volume and improve shape. Because it is a procedure that must be done safely, the surgeon and technique matter more here than almost anywhere.

What is a BBL?

A BBL combines two steps: liposuction to harvest fat (which also slims the donor areas), and careful transfer of that purified fat into the buttocks to add volume and improve contour. Because it uses your own tissue, a well-done result looks and feels natural. It does not use implants.

BBL, skinny BBL and “non-surgical” options

The word “BBL” is used loosely online. In surgery it means one thing: reshaping the buttocks with your own transferred fat. Here is how the real options compare.

Option What it actually is
Standard BBL Liposuction harvests your fat, which is purified and transferred to the buttocks to add volume and improve shape.
Skinny BBL The same operation for slimmer patients — more emphasis on sculpting the waist so a modest fat transfer reads as a bigger change in proportion.
Non-surgical / “liquid” BBL Injectable fillers (e.g. Sculptra) that add slight, temporary volume. It is not a true BBL, results fade, and large-volume filler to the buttocks is not recommended.
Buttock implants A different operation using silicone implants — a BBL does not use implants.

Are you a good candidate?

  • Enough fat to harvest from other areas for transfer.
  • A wish to improve buttock shape and proportion, not just size.
  • A stable weight, good general health and realistic expectations.

Realistic expectations matter: a proportion of transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed, so the plan accounts for that. Your surgeon is honest about what your body can achieve.

How it is performed

Under general anaesthesia at Acıbadem in Istanbul, fat is removed by liposuction, purified, and injected into the buttocks at a safe depth and layer. Modern, safety-focused technique — placing fat in the correct plane — is essential, which is why an experienced, qualified surgeon and a proper facility are non-negotiable.

Recovery

A compression garment is worn, and you avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for a period as advised, to protect the transferred fat. Soreness and swelling settle over weeks; the final shape appears over a few months as swelling resolves and the surviving fat settles.

BBL safety: the facts you must have

A BBL is the cosmetic operation where safety matters most, so we say this plainly rather than sell around it. Historically the BBL has carried the highest death rate of any cosmetic surgery, because fat injected too deeply — into or beneath the gluteal muscle — can enter a large vein and cause a fat embolism, a sudden, sometimes fatal blockage in the lungs.

The risk is dramatically reduced by technique that the profession now treats as standard:

  • Fat is placed in the subcutaneous plane only — above the muscle, never into it.
  • Ultrasound guidance lets the surgeon confirm the cannula stays in the safe layer in real time.
  • The cannula is kept moving, angled away from deep veins, at controlled pressure.
  • The operation is done by a qualified plastic surgeon in a fully equipped, accredited hospital — not a clinic cutting corners on price.

This is exactly why the cheapest quote is the wrong thing to chase, and why “botched” BBL stories almost always trace back to unqualified operators or unsafe settings. At Clinic Elia your BBL is performed by Op. Dr. Ali Çetinkaya using subcutaneous-only, safety-first technique at Acıbadem, and part of your consultation is a frank conversation about whether a BBL is right for you at all.

Results

The surviving transferred fat is permanent, so results are long-lasting with a stable weight. Some initial volume is reabsorbed, which the plan anticipates. A natural, proportionate result ages better than an over-filled one.

Cost in Turkey

A BBL in Turkey costs well below UK, EU and North American prices, within an all-inclusive package. As with any surgery, the cheapest quote is rarely the safest — the surgeon and facility matter most here. Your quote follows an assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Is a BBL safe?

A BBL must be performed with modern, safety-focused technique by a qualified surgeon in a proper facility — this is where safety comes from. We treat the surgeon and facility as non-negotiable, and discuss the risks openly.

Does it use implants?

No — a BBL uses your own fat, transferred by liposuction. It does not use buttock implants.

Will all the fat survive?

No — a proportion of transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed, which is why the plan accounts for it. The surviving fat is permanent.

Do I have enough fat for a BBL?

You need enough fat to harvest elsewhere. If you are very slim, your surgeon will tell you honestly whether a BBL is realistic.

Why can’t I sit normally afterwards?

To protect the transferred fat, you avoid direct pressure on the buttocks for a period, using a cushion as advised.

How long do results last?

Long-lasting with a stable weight; significant weight change affects the result.

How long do I stay in Turkey?

Usually around 7 days, confirmed in your plan.

Is a BBL dangerous — is it the deadliest cosmetic surgery?

It has historically carried the highest mortality of cosmetic procedures, because of fat embolism when fat is placed too deep. Modern subcutaneous-only technique with ultrasound guidance, by a qualified surgeon in an accredited hospital, is what makes it far safer. We treat that standard as non-negotiable.

What is a skinny BBL?

The same operation for slimmer patients, with more focus on sculpting the waist so a smaller fat transfer creates a bigger change in proportion. If you have very little fat, your surgeon will tell you honestly whether it is realistic.

Is there a non-surgical or “liquid” BBL?

Injectable fillers add only slight, temporary volume and are not a true BBL; large-volume buttock filler is not recommended. Be wary of anyone marketing it as equivalent to surgery.

How do I avoid a botched BBL?

Choose a qualified plastic surgeon operating in an accredited hospital with subcutaneous-only, ultrasound-guided technique — and walk away from anyone selling on price or promising a specific size online.

Does a BBL use implants?

No — it uses your own fat. Buttock implants are a separate operation.
