Beard Transplant in Turkey

Reviewed against our editorial standards and medical review policy. Procedures at Clinic Elia are carried out under physician supervision at Acıbadem. General information, not personal medical advice.

A beard transplant fills patchy, thin or absent facial hair with your own follicles — permanently. The result is a beard you shave, trim and style like any other; the difference between a natural one and an obvious one is the surgeon’s eye for angle and design.

What is a beard transplant?

A beard transplant fills patchy, thin or absent facial hair using your own hair follicles, usually taken from the back of the scalp. The grafts are placed one by one into the beard line, cheeks, moustache or goatee area, where they grow permanently and behave like beard hair — you shave it, trim it and style it as normal.

Demand has grown quickly, and for an understandable reason: for many men a patchy beard is not a grooming problem but a genetic one, and no oil or supplement changes follicle distribution. Surgery does.

How it works

The procedure uses the same techniques as scalp transplantation — FUE extraction, with placement either through fine channels (sometimes with sapphire blades for fine detail) or directly with a DHI implanter pen. Facial work is detail work: the angle of beard hair is much flatter to the skin than scalp hair, and direction changes across the face. Getting those angles right is what separates a natural beard from an obvious transplant, which is why expert-led design matters here even more than density.

A typical session uses anywhere from a few hundred grafts for filling small gaps to a few thousand for building a full beard, under local anaesthetic, in a single day.

How many grafts will you need?

Beard work is measured in the same currency as scalp work — grafts — and the number depends entirely on the area and the density you want. As a rough guide:

Goal Typical grafts
Filling small gaps or patches 300–800
Strengthening a sparse moustache or goatee 600–1,200
Defining and thickening cheeks and jawline 1,200–2,500
Building a full beard from very little 2,500–4,000+

These are indicative only. Your donor supply is finite and shared with your scalp’s future needs, so an honest surgeon takes what your donor can spare — and gives you a real number based on your photos, not a sales figure.

What to expect in recovery

Small crusts form around each graft and clear within about ten days. You will need to hold off shaving for a couple of weeks, then reintroduce it gently. As with scalp transplants, the new hairs shed after a few weeks — this is normal — and regrow from around month three, with the full result at around a year. Tiny dot marks in the scalp donor area hide under surrounding hair.

Who is a good candidate?

Good candidates have a stable donor area at the back of the scalp, realistic goals about coverage, and skin free of active conditions in the beard area. If you have very limited donor hair, a full dense beard may not be achievable — an honest clinic will model what your donor supply actually supports before you commit.

Not sure where you stand?

Send a few photos of your hairline and crown. A physician reviews them and tells you honestly what is realistic — including when the honest answer is that surgery is not the right step yet.

Cost in Turkey

Beard transplants in Turkey typically cost a fraction of UK, European or North American prices — the same economics that make Turkey a hub for scalp transplants apply here. At Clinic Elia your beard transplant is carried out at Acıbadem — an accredited private hospital in Istanbul — under physician supervision. Price depends mainly on graft count, so a small gap-fill costs far less than building a full beard, and an accurate figure only comes after a photo assessment. A genuine all-inclusive package covers the procedure, medications, hotel, VIP transfers, a coordinator and follow-up. As always, the cheapest quote is rarely the safest — see hair transplant cost in Turkey for how packages work.

Frequently asked questions

Will the transplanted beard look natural?

Yes, when the angles and direction are planned well. Beard hair grows flatter and in changing directions across the face; expert-led design is what makes the result read as natural.

Can I shave normally afterwards?

Yes. Once healed, transplanted beard hair is permanent and behaves like any beard hair — shave, trim and style as you like.

Where does the hair come from?

Usually the back of the scalp, where follicles are genetically resistant to shedding. These adapt well to the beard area.

How many grafts will I need?

Anywhere from a few hundred for small gaps to a few thousand for a full beard. Send photos for a personalised estimate rather than relying on a generic figure.

How long does it take to see results?

Shedding in the first weeks is normal. Real growth shows from around month three, with the full beard at about twelve months.

Is it permanent?

Yes. The transplanted follicles keep their resistance to shedding, so the beard is permanent — though, like any beard, its fullness still depends on the grafts placed.

How long do I stay in Turkey?

Around three days, the same as a scalp transplant.

Does a beard transplant actually work?

Yes — it moves permanent, DHT-resistant follicles from your scalp to the beard, where they grow for life. The honest caveat: a full, dense beard needs enough donor supply, so a good clinic tells you what your donor can realistically support.

Is FUE, DHI or Sapphire used for beards?

Extraction is FUE; placement is via fine channels (often with sapphire blades) or directly with a DHI pen. Facial detail favours the finest, most precise placement.

Are the before-and-after photos online real?

Not always — it is the most-faked thing in this field. See how to read a before-and-after honestly.

Thinking about a fuller beard?

Send a few photos of your face from the front and sides on WhatsApp. You will get an honest assessment of what your donor hair can support, and one clear all-inclusive price.
