An eyebrow transplant restores or reshapes the brows with your own hair — a permanent alternative to pencils and microblading. It is the most delicate transplant we perform, where design and placement matter more than anything, because there is no density to hide behind.
What is an eyebrow transplant?
An eyebrow transplant restores or reshapes the brows using your own hair, taken follicle by follicle from the scalp and placed into the brow line. It is a solution for brows thinned by years of over-plucking, lost through scarring or burns, or simply sparse by genetics — cases where pencils and microblading manage the appearance but never change the hair itself.
It is also the most delicate transplant we perform. An eyebrow contains only a few hundred hairs, every one of them visible, growing at an extremely flat angle in directions that change across the brow. There is no density to hide behind. Design and placement are everything.
How it works
Fine grafts — almost always single-hair follicular units — are taken with FUE from the scalp, usually just behind the ear where hair is finest. The brow shape is drawn and agreed with you before any work begins, mapped to your face rather than to a fashion template. Under local anaesthetic, each graft is placed at a precise angle, nearly parallel to the skin, following the natural flow: upward at the inner brow, gradually flattening and angling outward along the arch and tail.
A session typically involves several hundred grafts per brow and takes a few hours in a single day.
Transplant vs microblading: which is right?
They solve the same problem in fundamentally different ways, and one is not simply “better” than the other.
| Eyebrow transplant | Microblading | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Your own growing hair, surgically placed | Semi-permanent pigment tattooed into the skin |
| Permanence | Permanent | Fades over 1–3 years; needs redoing |
| Looks like | Real, three-dimensional hair | A drawn-on impression of hair |
| Upkeep | Regular trimming | Periodic touch-ups |
| Best for | Genuinely sparse or scarred brows | Shaping and colour on brows that still have hair |
If you want a permanent, natural result and are willing to trim, a transplant is the more complete answer. If you want low-commitment shaping, microblading may suit you better. An honest consultation will tell you which fits your brows — not which is easier to sell.
Microblading also comes in styles you may have seen advertised — hair-stroke, 3D or microshading, and ombré — but all of them are semi-permanent pigment in the skin, not growing hair.
Recovery and one honest caveat
Small crusts settle within about a week, and the transplanted hairs shed after a few weeks before regrowing from around month three — the same rhythm as any transplant. The full result shows at around a year.
The honest caveat: because the transplanted hairs come from your scalp, they keep growing like scalp hair. That means regular trimming, usually weekly, and occasionally training the direction with a brow gel in the early months. Most patients consider this a fair trade for real, permanent brows — but you should know it before you decide, not after.
Who is a good candidate?
Good candidates have healthy donor hair, a stable cause of brow loss, and clear expectations about the trimming routine. If your brow loss comes from an active condition such as alopecia areata or an untreated thyroid issue, that needs assessing first — surgery into an unstable situation wastes grafts.
Not sure where you stand?
Send a few photos of your hairline and crown. A physician reviews them and tells you honestly what is realistic — including when the honest answer is that surgery is not the right step yet.
Cost in Turkey
Eyebrow transplants in Turkey cost considerably less than in the UK, Europe or North America. Because the graft numbers are small compared with a scalp procedure, the price reflects the precision and time the work demands rather than volume. At Clinic Elia your procedure is carried out at Acıbadem — an accredited private hospital in Istanbul — under physician supervision. An accurate figure comes after seeing close-up photos of your brows, and a proper package includes the procedure, aftercare and follow-up. Frequently asked questions
Will transplanted eyebrows look natural?
Yes, when angle and direction are right. Brow hair lies almost flat against the skin and changes direction across the brow; precise single-graft placement is what makes it convincing.
Do I need to trim them?
Yes. The hairs come from your scalp and keep scalp-like growth, so a quick weekly trim becomes part of your routine.
How many grafts are needed?
Usually several hundred per brow, depending on how much shape and density you want to build.
Is it better than microblading?
It is more permanent and more natural, because it is real growing hair — but it requires trimming and is a surgical procedure. Microblading suits brows that still have hair and want shaping. The right choice depends on your brows.
Is it painful?
It is done under local anaesthetic. Expect mild tenderness for a day or two afterwards.
When will I see the result?
Shedding in the early weeks is normal; growth returns from month three, with the full result at around twelve months.
Do eyebrows grow back on their own?
Often not. Brows thinned by years of over-plucking, scarring or genetics usually do not fully return, because the follicles are damaged or absent — which is what a transplant addresses. If your loss is from a treatable medical cause, that is assessed first.
Does an eyebrow transplant actually work?
Yes — it places permanent, growing follicles into the brow. The result depends on precise angle and design, and it needs regular trimming because the hair keeps its scalp-like growth.
Are the before-and-after photos online real?
Not always — it is the most-faked thing in this field. See how to read a before-and-after honestly.
