A chin or jaw implant adds definition to a weak or receding chin and jawline, bringing the lower face into balance with the rest of your features. It is a powerful way to improve your profile — often the missing piece in facial harmony that people cannot quite put their finger on.

What are chin and jaw implants?

A recessed or weak chin can make the nose look larger and the neck look heavier, throwing off the whole profile. A precisely shaped, well-fitted implant augments the chin or jawline to restore proportion and definition. Where a chin is over-projected, reduction may instead be the answer — the aim is always balance.

Chin implant, sliding genioplasty or filler

A weak or receding chin unbalances the profile and can make the nose look larger. There are three main ways to strengthen it.

Option What it means
Chin implant A shaped, permanent implant is placed over the bone to add projection and definition — the most common approach.
Sliding genioplasty The chin bone is repositioned by the surgeon; useful for larger corrections or when the chin needs to move in more than one direction.
Filler (non-surgical) Injectable filler adds temporary projection — useful to trial a change, but not permanent.
Often combined with Rhinoplasty (for profile balance) or neck liposuction for a defined jawline.

Are you a good candidate?

  • A weak, receding or under-defined chin or jawline.
  • A profile that feels “off” without an obvious single cause.
  • Good general health and realistic expectations.

Facial balance is assessed as a whole — sometimes a chin implant complements or reduces the apparent need for other procedures. Your surgeon plans the profile together with you.

How it is performed

Through a small hidden incision (under the chin or inside the mouth), a shaped implant is positioned over the bone and secured, adding definition where it is needed. It is sometimes combined with liposuction of the neck or other contouring for a refined jawline.

Recovery

Swelling and tightness settle over one to two weeks, with a soft diet in the early days if the intra-oral approach is used. Most people return to a light routine within about two weeks; the final contour settles over the following weeks.

Risks and safety, honestly

Chin augmentation is a well-established, generally safe procedure, but honesty about risk matters. With an implant the specific, uncommon risks are shifting or infection of the implant, and temporary numbness of the lower lip from handling a nearby nerve. Choosing the right size to suit your face — not an oversized one — is a matter of surgical judgement. At Clinic Elia the procedure is performed by Op. Dr. Ali Çetinkaya at Acıbadem, planned around your whole profile.

Frequently asked questions

Will a chin implant look natural?

Yes, when the size and shape are chosen to suit your face. The aim is balance, so it looks like your own bone structure.

Where is the scar?

Under the chin or inside the mouth, so it is well hidden.

Is it permanent?

Yes — the implant provides a permanent, stable result. It can be adjusted or removed if ever needed.

Is it painful?

Discomfort is usually mild; expect swelling and tightness for the first week or two.

Can it be combined with other procedures?

Yes — often with neck liposuction or a neck lift to refine the jawline, or alongside rhinoplasty for profile balance.

What if my chin is too prominent?

Then reduction rather than augmentation may be right. The goal is balance, assessed for your face.

How long do I stay in Turkey?

Usually around a week, confirmed in your plan.

Chin implant, genioplasty or filler — which is right for me?

An implant suits most moderate cases; a sliding genioplasty suits larger or multi-directional corrections; filler is a temporary trial. Your surgeon recommends based on your bone and goals.

Is a chin implant permanent and reversible?

It is permanent but can be removed or exchanged if ever needed — a benefit over some other options.

Where is the scar?

Hidden under the chin or inside the mouth, so it is not visible.

Should I combine it with a nose job?

Often yes — strengthening the chin balances the profile and can make the nose look more proportionate. Many plan them together.

Who is a good candidate?

People with a weak or receding chin and a wish for a more defined profile and jawline.
